The Danger of Evangelical Silence

Our nation has never been more polarized than it is today on matters of politics. It seems that many politicians are attempting to gain support and grow their base by jumping from one extreme position to the next. This is especially true regarding the issue of abortion. For the Christians, life is a non-debatable issue. For the liberals, the it’s being spun as a matter of “reproductive freedom” and a “private healthcare choice.” Suffice it to say, elections have consequences.

The social justice agenda has left an indelible mark upon our nation. The impact of deconstructionism is being felt in all spheres of our society. We see it in the sphere of the academy where every radical view imaginable is given center stage to indoctrinate the minds of the next generation while orthodox views of marriage, life, and foundational principles regarding the family and capitalism remain under vicious attack. We see this same move in the sphere of evangelicalism. While many religions are experiencing this dreaded threat, it’s the conservative protestant sphere that has in many ways capitulated the most.

What is at stake is massively important to western civilization and Christianity in America—which will have an impact upon the whole world.

The Tragedy of Christian Silence

During the rise of social justice movement (pre-2018), Christian leaders were moving about in the shadows and setting the stage for the social justice deconstructionist agenda. After the release of the Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel, a light came on for many people.

Sadly, many people remain confused and committed to supporting the very men and ministries who were exposed during that time period. During the post-George Floyd era, many Christian leaders have become willing to speak up, march in the streets in Black Lives Matters events, and articulate their positions regarding systemic injustice, critical race theory, and intersectionality.

Compromising Christian leaders should be ashamed of their commitment to the middle of the road rather than the truth. You can’t be committed to truth while embracing error.

Today, these same voices are silent. They have moved back into the shadows. At the very hour when the truth should be made known and for the church to vote properly, they refuse to speak up. This lack of clarity results in confusion on the issues at hand and encourages politicians to look beyond the borders of orthodoxy for voices to help them spread the truth regarding the dangers that attack the very fabric of our civilization. Compromising Christian leaders should be ashamed of their commitment to the middle of the road rather than the truth. You can’t be committed to truth while embracing error.

The Tragedy of False Christianity

If the church is to honor Christ, the church certainly does not need false prophets and leaders of false religions to be leading the charge in the fight for freedom. Sadly, within the sphere of evangelical Christianity, far too many Christian leaders have remained silent on the issues. They have gone off the grid. They are unwilling to stand and allow their voices to be heard. Because of this, many politicians have chosen to hitch themselves to false prophets of the highest order such as Kenneth Copeland and Paula White. This is tragic on many levels.

The Danger of Conflating False Christianity with Real Christianity

We have watched leaders on various levels of the political sphere embrace false teachers such as Kenneth Copeland, Paula White, and other vile deceivers of souls for their political influence. For instance, President Trump assembled a group of religious leaders to advise him during his time in office. The choices he made could not have been worse. In Proverbs 15:2, we find these words, “The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.”

False prophets are always for sale. They will gladly offer their followers up to politicians in exchange for opportunities to promote their platform and false gospel.

While Christians engage in the sphere of politics and work alongside unbelievers on a daily basis—it’s a completely different idea altogether to promote false teachers as true Christians. Christians cannot support and embrace the idea that these false prophets are representatives of biblical Christianity. Not only are they outside of the boundaries of orthodoxy, they are dangerous wolves who have no other agenda than to ultimately desecrate the gospel of Jesus and promote themselves for their own gain. False prophets are always for sale. They will gladly offer their followers up to politicians in exchange for opportunities to promote their platform and false gospel.

When Christian leaders remain silent, politicians will use false prophets who pretend to be genuine Christians in order to appeal to the Christian community. Not only is this unnecessary, it’s confusing and dangerous for the true church.

The Danger of Conflating Black Liberation Theology with Biblical Christianity

It is true that elections have consequences, but far too often large groups of black people continue to vote for liberal candidates who are committed to promoting and supporting policies that are designed to restrict, enslave, and strip people of as much freedom in the name of liberation. It’s truly a deceptive pattern that impacts generation after generation who refuse to break free from such ideologies.

The people who choose their candidate by the color of their skin rather than the truths of their policies will continue to be enslaved by false teachers and deceptive politicians such as Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock. There is a better way.

Meanwhile, Stacey Abrams has continued to cycle through churches (I use the title church very loosely here) in Georgia with a Black Liberation Theology message that centers upon salvation through politics—specifically the election of radical liberal Democrat politicians who will use their power and policies to liberate the people. This is the opposite of Christianity.

The people who choose their candidate by the color of their skin rather than the truths of their policies will continue to be enslaved by false teachers and deceptive politicians such as Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock. There is a better way.

The Way of Truth

We are indeed in a war. This war is not fought with weapons and bombs. Instead, it’s a war of ideas, principles, ideologies, policies, and laws. How can Christians remain silent and not point people to the truth of Scripture? Genuine Christians must stand up and be heard on matters of truth. A refusal to speak opens the door for false teachers and bad actors. A refusal of clarity on your message will result in conflating Christianity with something other than Christianity.

A refusal to speak opens the door for false teachers and bad actors. A refusal of clarity on your message will result in conflating Christianity with something other than Christianity.

Ultimately, our first commitment is to the gospel of Jesus. We must be known as people of Christ. We must be fiercely committed to speaking the truth of the gospel which is the ultimate means of liberation and freedom. However, we must likewise be willing to address sin and compromise in the political sphere. John the Baptist was a faithful prophet of God, and he was willing to speak up and point out that Herod was not permitted by God to have his brother’s wife. It was costly, but it was the right thing to do.

Bold Christians who engage in the sphere of politics are not forced to capitulate by promoting false teachers as faithful Christians for the sake of promoting good political positions. In doing so, you are viewed as someone who raises political policy above gospel truth.

This is not the time for silence on these important issues. Bold Christians who engage in the sphere of politics are not forced to capitulate by promoting false teachers as faithful Christians for the sake of promoting good political positions. In doing so, you are viewed as someone who raises political policy above gospel truth. There is a better way.

Furthermore, faithful Christians must stop toying with the idea that playing the “middle of the road” game is the safest route. Eventually, everyone who seeks to land in the middle of the road will eventually suffer devastating consequences. The cannons of deconstruction are real and dangerous. The time for clarity, boldness, and truth speaking is now.

Truly conservative politicians do not need false teachers to advance the message of truth. There is a better way. The way of truth involves standing boldly upon the truth and clearly articulating the failures of opposing policies that attack our freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and ultimately our freedom of life. This will appeal to the American people and the results will be successful.

Remember, the false narrative of separation of church and state was never intended to keep the church silent on matters of politics and political policy. The phrase “wall of separation between the church and the state” was originally coined by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists on January 1, 1802. The idea was originally designed to keep the state out of the church rather than to keep the church out of the state. Therefore, for Christians to speak up, engage, and vote with a commitment to honoring Christ is essential for the good of our country.

The next time you are given an opportunity to vote, use your freedom and your voice to support truth and let it all be done for the glory of God.

Colossians 1:16 – For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
