Theology Word of the Week: Foreknowledge
Foreknowledge. A biblical term (from Greek prognōsis) that literally means “to know in advance.” Some theologians view foreknowledge as referring to God’s selective choice of individuals or groups of people with whom to enter into a loving relationship. Foreknowledge understood in this sense is more than simply knowing events in advance of their happening (although this may be included) because the Scriptures seem to use the term in a more relational than chronological sense. Thus the foreknowledge of God involves God’s favorable disposition to certain people, even before they existed. [1]
